Another Pointless Death

Many of you will know Joelle - a dedicated wildlife rehabilitator based in Dartford who has become a much-relied-upon rescuer in her local community.

Like us, she’s grappling with the daily cruelty of catapult attacks. While she work tirelessly to ease the suffering of injured wildlife in her area, others in the community are intent on inflicting pain on vulnerable creatures purely for entertainment.

This pigeon was part of a local flock Joelle had known since he was a baby. She found him dead, still warm. Look at the size of the bolt that was fired into him. He didn’t stand a chance.

There are no words.

I've also received a disturbing video - sent to us by multiple people - showing a local youth killing a number of animals. Pigeons, waterbirds, even songbirds who are in rapid decline.

Many of these videos are filmed at night. The birds are roosting in trees, completely unaware.

The idea that there's any sportsmanship involved in killing small and completely defenceless birds as they sleep is laughable. No skill, just sadism. Pointless and frankly, pathetic.

We are aware that Kent Police have been circulating letters advising locals about the spike in catapult crime and the laws related to it, and applaud them for at least doing something.

But clearly, more needs to be done.

Please keep reporting these attacks to the police the moment you see them.

Please keep pressuring your local representatives.

Please keep sharing and spreading the word.
